At the end of 2008, I wrote a note on my Facebook recapping my year. I titled it "The Anti New Year's Resolution" because I hate those. Rereading my review of 2008, I'm reminded how truly, earth-shatteringly amazing 2009 has been. For SO many more reasons than 2008 was bad.
In light of the awesomeness that has been this past year, please enjoy my 2009 highlights.
In 2009, I...
...Rang in the new year with a best friend who refused to let me boo-hoo all night and forced me to have a great time instead. She was my new year's smoochy <3
...Realized what I'd been missing all along, and fell madly, stupidly and sloppily in love with Ryan. ...Celebrated President Obama's inauguration with some of my favorite people.
...Turned 22 with a flamboyant and fantastic roller-skating birthday party! ...Discovered my love for Kinch and Black Carl.
...Sang lots of karaoke. (Montel Jordan WHAT WHAT!)
...Saw the Cubs whoop the Diamondbacks in Tucson and enjoyed Tucson's total treasure of a dive bar, The Buffet. ...Saw TONS of awesome live music. I'm really happy about this actually - in 2009 I promised myself that I'd stop passing up shows that I really wanted to attend. So I did! I saw Devotchka, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dear and the Headlights, the Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular, Kinch & Black Carl a zillion times, What Laura Says, Dusty Rhodes and the River Band, Aussie Pink Floyd, and VIVA VOCE!!!!!! Does anyone else listen to VV? We saw them at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix which is an awesome, intimate blues club that serves PBR in the can for $1.
Oh and guess what? WE MET THEM. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE.
...Interviewed for graduate programs, had my first mild panic attack, and got accepted at ASU!
...Completed, defended and handed in my honors thesis. That's almost worth mentioning twice!!! My best friends and I had a rockin' party afterward that I barely remember but I'm pretty sure I had a great time (according to reports).
...Graduated from Arizona State University cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Human Development and a Barrett Honors College diploma.
...Saw our President deliver my commencement address and celebrated my accomplishments with thousands of other ASU grads. And Alice Cooper. And got photo'd smooching my Ryan.
...Embarked on the journey of a lifetime with my one and only. Roadtripped through San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and saw absolutely everything (and everyone, and all the drunk people) in between. And there was camping. Lots of camping. And lots of beef jerky. And farting.
...Spent the entire summer laying by the pool, watching Food Network, sleeping til noon and doing pretty much nothing else.
...Adopted my very first dog and discovered what all you "dog people" have been raving about this entire time.
...Moved into a historic home in downtown Phoenix full of cats and dogs and started the next chapter of my life in a vibrant city. I do not miss Tempe. At all. ...Began graduate school. Had a breakdown. Recovered. Achieved awesome grades. Got assigned an internship.
...Watched a building implode across the street from my house.
...Celebrated Labor Day with my girls and possibly made a fool of myself. ...Discovered zillions of new hobbies I never even knew I wanted.
...Realized just how much I have to be thankful for.
Happy 2010, lovers!!!
Love, Kara
Happy New Year, Kara! Hope your 2010 is just as great--or greater--than your 2009. Little did I know that I was celebrating your commencement with you last May as I was there to see the President (with the ASU Alumni Association).
ReplyDeleteAnd now you're ringing in the new year in my hometown. Serendipity.
Oh the building demolition! We need to post the video somewhere, our reactions were the best part. What a good year, so glad you're a big part of my 2010!
ReplyDelete@maccandace - Seriously, nutty! Wasn't that a great ceremony though? And not just because I'm a flaming liberal...?
ReplyDelete@roomsie - Love you <3
