Workin on mah fitness

I've seen a ton of my favorite bloggers posting about doing a weight loss/healthy eating/getting fit challenge on their blogs lately. I've gone from being interested in Weight Watchers to wanting to enroll in a fitness boot camp to promising myself a vegetarian diet plan to cutting calories down to like 60 a day.

All this inspiration culminated in my ordering a bathroom scale from CSN stores as part of the product review I mentioned a couple weeks ago. That might sound totally unexciting but it was a big deal for me because we've never had a scale in our home, ever. Like, since I was born. And I'm a practical woman, so I like practical things.

So, my scale came! And it's pretty and digital and white! And I'm absolutely floored at how much my weight fluctuates on a daily basis. Usually by a couple of pounds. Is that what every woman does? Is that a stupid question?

See? My foot totally weighs 45 POUNDS. TIME TO START WORKING OUT.

I have a gym membership and I like to work out at least twice a week, three or four if I can fit it in. One of my girlfriends and I started doing a cardio kickbox class every Wednesday night and I also love the bikes, ellipticals and stair steppers at the gym. I'm not a runner, though - never have been, never will be. HATE the damn treadmill. HATE. IT. I've tried reading, podcasts, fast music, rock music, etc. Can't enjoy it. What are your guys' favorite machines? Do you like doing the classes at your gym?

The bottom line is, I suck at diets. I suck at crazy fitness plans. I eat healthy all the time because I love fruits and veggies, and I snack or indulge when I feel like it. I'm not going to drink my coffee with skim milk and forgo half & half. I'm not giving up dessert. I'm not going to LIVE at the gym.

Also? I'm not going to weigh myself compulsively. Once a week is just fine. Because I'm at a point in life where I can look at a picture like this:

And notice that my hair is growing like crazy or admire my cute top instead of inspecting my legs for cellulite. Which I already know is there. And I'm fine with it.

The point is, gather inspiration from the amazing women in the blog world, and then create your own healthy lifestyle plan. At the end of the day, your most important goal should be to impress yourself!

Do yourself a favor. Look in the mirror and say DAMN I LOOK HOT. Go do it. Now. Because you do.

  1. Judging on that picture you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. And I couldn't imagine doing anything like as much exercise as that a week haha. xD <3

  2. if that is a pic of you, you are looking great! i think you are doing everything right -- being sensible, working out, and not compulsively weighing yourself too often!

i can't handle the gym, so i just work out at home. exercise dvds, or go for a walk, or ride the exercise bike. it works, and it would work REALLY WELL if i did it more often! and no nosy nelly's checking out how fast i can go or how much i can lift. bleh! i cannot handle gyms! plus i am anti-social. plus i don't want to wear the "outfits" you are supposed to work out in. i always get hot working out and end up taking off most of the clothes and work out in my underwear. this is not socially acceptable! thankfully. :)

  3. I love this post! Women are so harsh and negative to their bodies (myself included) and I have found myself feeling so inspired by other bloggers as well! I adore your positive attitude lady - and that pic of you is gorgeous!

  4. hahah, yes! we are all hot. yeah, my weight fluctuates daily. just because of poop & water and stuff like that. but actually, here's my secret: i stopped working out this year & i lost a lot of weight. hahaha. and i actually like not having huge thighs anymore. thighs of muscle, but nonetheless, huge thighs. haha, good luck figuring anything out. and yeah, nothing really matters anyways, BECAUSE YOU'RE HOTT!

  5. I try to do things moderately, else it is really hard to stick to really strict plans.

  6. @drollgirl - Hahaha, I'm right there with you on the workout clothes and the nosy nellys thing. I hate that aspect of the gym but I just ignore the bobbing ponytails and the spandex...everything. ick.

@everyone - Thanks for all the love!

  9. Man, I feel the same way. I like some forms of exercise (and I love the way I feel when I'm done), but I hate running. That's the end of that. Wish it were different, but such is life.

These days I'm all about the 30 Day Shred. ;)

  10. if only everyone could have this take on weight loss!!! You are completely grounded in it and I love it. We all need to find a system that works, not some crazy one. I workout / eat healthy completely during the workweek but due to that discipline... I also indulge on the weekends. That's MY balance- I love that you seem to have found your healthy one as well.
