Outfit post: law school chic

For those of you who haven't heard the big news yet, Ryan got accepted to law school for the upcoming school year!!! He's been planning on attending law school for a long time, so it has been a very special few weeks as all of this has been sinking in for him. I made him a surprise romantic dinner, bought a fancy bottle of wine and gave him a gift certificate for some new school supplies.

This past weekend, Ryan attended orientation for all newly admitted students. He got to tour the new downtown campus (inside a high-rise!), take a couple of mock classes and meet lots of faculty and staff. I was stuck at work, but he asked me to come to a pool party/mixer at the Clarendon Hotel on Saturday night and I was thrilled to go!

It was SO difficult to decide what to wear! Do I dress for a pool party, or will people even be swimming? Do I wear something casual? Trendy? Am I supposed to look like a lawyer's fiance now? Now I know how Ryan must have felt when I was starting my graduate school program, dragging him around to meet all my new bffs while he had to listen to us talk about classes, text books and therapy. It's a lot of pressure, making important first impressions and all.

So I stuck with comfy/casual.

It's getting to that disgusting part of the year in Phoenix when you have to be conscious of the material you're wearing in order to make sure it disguises your back, armpit, stomach and neck sweat.

My comfy cotton shirt from Gap and my favorite swingy skirt from Forever 21 did the trick. And my new Blowfish Gimmik platforms were so comfortable all night!!

We had a really, really fun night meeting and getting to know a lot of other couples at the mixer. There are people coming here to attend school from all over the U.S. I loved one of the sassy New York ladies we met and one of the other guys moving out here from Indiana. It was so interesting to meet their spouses and listen to them talk about how much their lives are going to change as they follow their husbands and wives to Phoenix, Arizona to pursue their dreams. I think we "law school widows" are gonna be hanging out as often as the students we're supporting!

My pretty new Blowfish platforms were awesome. My feet were not at all sore at the end of the night after standing around and chatting for hours. We even left the mixer to walk to the Rose and Crown to meet up with some of Ryan's guy friends! How many 4+ inch platforms can you say you can walk comfortably in?

I've been wearing my hair like this a lot lately. It's just simply too hot to wear it down with bangs. Since I'm still growing it out for our wedding, the middle-part bohemian look has been my staple.

I'm so proud of my future lawyer!! I can't wait to repay him for all the loving support he gave me while I was in grad school. It's a noble job to be someone's cheerleader, and one that I take very seriously! Doesn't he look so handsome and collegiate??

Rah, rah, Ryan!!

  8. ADORABLE HAIR? CHECK. BEAUTIFUL CITY BACK-DROP? CHECK. ADORABLE OUTFIT SO BEFITTING OF A QUICK MEET AND GREET? CHECK. (that was so dumb to phrase it like that). You look ADORBS! I love the thought process and think you executed it so well. Congratulations so much to Ryan, you two have such goals and I love that you cheer each other on. I always remember when you said a few posts back that you're "modest people with modest incomes" (perhaps not word for word) but for some reason, that resonated with me and when I see your smiling faces and your completely wonderful goals being satisfied by hard work, I really think you two have it figured out.
