Yesterday was a huge day for me.
If you wanna know why, tell me what you see when you look at the following photo. Most people would see a graduation ceremony, an excited/exhausted graduate, a woman on the verge of becoming engaged to the man of her dreams, Sun Devil school pride, bangs that looked good for about 5 minutes, or my beautiful classmates.
I see crooked teeth.
Let's try it with this photo now. No makeup? Fuzzy hair? Kitchen of ex-boyfriends past? High school teenage exuberance? Nope. Straight teeth.
I had braces in high school for almost 2 years. 2 years of appointments, teeth impressions, brackets, rubber bands, wax and radiating pain. After everything was said and done and the braces came off, life was great!
Then, I had my wisdom teeth removed. And there were complications. And shifting. And oral surgery. And a bad reaction to Percoset. And retainers that stopped fitting.
And basically? My teeth aren't straight anymore. It's been something I've been kind of unsettled about for the past several years, and something that has been pretty disappointing, considering how much time and money my family invested in my teeth. I've been wanting to do Invisalign for years, but it's never been something I could afford.
UNTIL NOW. Armed with an almost 50 hour work week and complete health coverage, I can finally take the plunge into Invisalign! I had a consultation yesterday and was thrilled to hear the dentist say that not only was I a perfect candidate for Invisalign, but that I also have beautiful, healthy teeth! They took impressions (ew, ick, gross, gag) and my first trays should be ready just after our wedding.
Maybe it's silly to devote an entire post to clear braces, but this is something that is really important to me. After all, people watch me talk for a living! So let's hear it for finding a positive way to deal with my exorbitant workload, investing in my dental health and straight teeth :D

I am right there with you except in my case its totally my fault. After years of braces I didn't wear my retainers faithfully and now my bottom teefs are crooked again :(
ReplyDeleteI wonder if i can get Invisalign on just the bottom? lol
ooo how exciting! My teeth have always been straight and I never needed braces, but since my wisdom teeth have come in they are starting to shift a little on the bottom from lack of space. I am just avoided having them taken out!
ReplyDeleteHope you love it!
Congrats! I guess I lucked out when I had braces which was a loooong time ago when I was about 12. The orthodontist had 4 of my perfectly fine molars pulled, just so there would be room when my wisdom teeth came in. I don't think I had those pulled until I was in my 30s so maybe my teeth were firmly set by then.
ReplyDeleteThis is soooo cool! I'm so happy for you. First off, I have a shit mouth. I have the smallest jaw in the world & with that comes very *British* teeth! I used to suck my thumb when I was little so an overbite was inevitable but my bottom teeth...woooey! They just don't want to behave. I got braces very young & had them off when I was going into my freshman year of HS. Meaning, 4 years of braces after some teeth pulling cause there's no room in my mouth! When the braces came off they gave me a permanent bottom retainer & I wore my top one all through high school & a bit after. But teeth will be teeth & of course I see all the flaws that are luckily hidden by my bottom lip most of the time. ;) So yeah, I feel you & I'm SO happy that you have GREAT insurance & are able to get this! Hooray for a happy smile! Cause you have a GREAT one! =) I like to capitalize great...hm.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I had a bad experience with invisialign. But that's more on my end because I hated wearing them.
ReplyDeleteHope you have much much better luck than I do.
Lucky! My teeth have been crooked my whole life since we could never afford braces or anything. I've gotten used to them though :) happy for you!
ReplyDeletegreat
