DIY: liquid handsoap

You guys. I made soap.

I'm newly obsessed with Pinterest (find me here!) and recently saw this really intriguing idea on the Bleubird blog that just so happens to be making the rounds on Pinterest: homemade liquid handsoap for pennies compared to what everyone (me) pays for Mrs. Meyer's.

I followed the directions listed on the blog and let it sit overnight.

And voila! Liquid soap!

A bar of Yardley soap (I picked English Lavender) was about $1, a bottle of liquid glycerin was about $4, and a gallon of water was free from the sink. I used 2 tablespoons of the liquid glycerin for the recipe...meaning the entire gallon of handsoap this recipe yields cost me barely over $1!

What's your favorite Pinterest household project?

4 kisses:

  1. very cool idea. There's so much to look at on Pinterest!!! I would follow you right now but my work blocks that site. I always loved Yardley Soap, always felt like it was SO fancy when I was little :)

  2. This is so awesome! How did you like the soap when you made it? I totally need to try this when I settle into my own home. Maybe I should get a fancy shmancy soap dispenser & put my money into that instead of the soap itself! Thanks for sharing! =)

    1. It turned out great! It's very snot-like inconsistency, not quiiiite like storebought, but definitely gets the job done :)

  3. So cool!
My favorite bar of soap is EXPENSIVE and this definitely seems like the smartest/easiest way to stretch it out! I'm going to have to find that pinterest project in addition to finding you on pinterest so I can stalk all the pretties you find! =)
