La Fashionista: Layering

La Fashionista is a monthly fashion post/love letter my Denver-dwelling friend Kelli and I write to each other on our blogs. This month's theme is layering. Catch last month's posts here and here.

Dear Kelli,

When you suggested layering as this month's theme for La Fashionista, I thought for half a second about being a smart ass and doing a whole post on layering jewelry given the mild winters we have here in Phoenix.

Then I realized that I'm a) a total jerk for even considering it and b) a total wimp. I'm freezing all. the. time.  My office at work is literally colder than it probably is outside in Denver right now. So you know how I survive Phoenix "winter"?

Little layers, if that makes sense.

Our days have been in the 60s for the past week, which is arguably perfect. There are people out and about frolicking in shorts, for goodness' sake! My favorite way to translate a spring/summer outfit to Phoenix winter is by adding extra goodies, like tights, socks and scarves.

I did it with shorts here for a really casual Saturday look, but I love the look with dresses and skirts too, like these lovely ladies.

I also love a good short or long sleeved cardigan to have at my disposal on breezy days. Obviously this is a weekend outfit - not a work one - but comfortable for those sunny cool weekend days we get to enjoy in Phoenix. (Not pictured: my at-home evening attire. Husband's sweats, sweatshirt, socks, ridiculous fuzzy slippers and occasionally even a scarf. I told you I was a wimp!)

(Editor's note: Ryan HATES HATES HATES the tights with socks look, so I did my hair in pigtails to distract him long enough to take photos. It's give-and-take in a marriage, let me tell ya.)

Excited to see how you layer up in Denver!

Warmly,
Kara

  1. Cute. Anxious to see how Kelli's layering differs.

I'm always cold, too. Tony refers to my nighttime attire as "Frederick's of Moscow." Sometimes he throws in the "Siberian Collection."
